School holiday programs for bushfire affected communities - Date:12-Aug-2009

YMCA Victoria is set to run school holiday programs and activities in more than 16 bushfire affected communities.

The Premier of Victoria John Brumby together with the Chair of the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund John Landy announced that YMCA Victoria would receive funding to provide a range of free programs and activities during school holidays in more than 16 bushfire affected locations across the state for the Term 2, Term 3 and the Summer holiday period.

YMCA Victoria Chief Executive Peter Burns said the Y was honoured to be able to bring its expertise in community strengthening to the bushfire affected communities. "After successfully running well received programs in several communities last school holidays, we are delighted that the Government and Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund has recognised this practical and important way of supporting families and their children affected by the fires," Mr Burns said.
